The Total Solar Eclipse of 2030 November 25 begins at sunrise in the south Atlantic Ocean and the umbra enters Africa just north of Swakopmund in Namibia. The path of totality crosses over the capital city of Windhoek and then through south western Botswana before entering South Africa in the Northern Cape Province.
Towns and cities in the path of totality include Vryburg, Klerksdorp, Welkom and Kroonstad. Also to be plunged into darkness are Bethlehem. Ladysmith, Harrismith, Estcourt, Pietermaritzburg and Durban.
After the moon´s shadow leaves the KwaZulu Natal coast, it continues over the Indian Ocean befroe making another landfall in Australia, just before local sunset.
Without a doubt - locations in the Kalahari region are going to be the best, both for duration and clear skies. Durations for selected locations in South Africa will be detailed on the 2030 places page (during 2010).
